Two drivers of a bus and a pickup van were killed and at least 12 people were in a head-on collision between the vehicles, under Birampur upazila of Dinajpur district, this morning.

The accident occurred around 6:30 am in Bouttali area on Dinajpur-Gaibandha’s Govindapur regional road.

The deceased were identified as bus driver Golam Rabbani, 38, a resident of Dinajpur, and pickup van driver Md Azad, 37, of Brahmanbaria. 

Birampur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Suman Kumar Mohanto said when the Dinajpur-bound bus of Nabil Paribahan from Dhaka collided with the pickup van coming from the opposite direction, leaving the drivers dead on the spot and 12 passengers of the bus injured.

Later, Fire Service and Civil Defence and police members rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies while the injured were sent to several hospitals including Birampur Upazila Health Complex, he said.

The bodies were brought to the Police Station, the OC added.
