The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned Gazipur City Corporation (GCC)'s suspended mayor Md Jahangir Alam for an inquiry about his wealth.

According to a source at the commission, Jahangir has been summoned for questioning on charges of allegedly misappropriating crores of taka in various development projects of the city corporation and transactions through fake bank accounts.

The corruption watchdog has asked Jahangir Alam to appear at the commission's head office on 20 and 21 May at 10am. 

Meanwhile, Jahangir was expelled from Awami League (AL) for life on May 15.

Jahangir Alam, who was elected as mayor in the previous election of GCC, was expelled in November 2021 for his remarks against Bangabandhu and his party. Later he lost his mayoral post.
