The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) did not find involvement of Dhaka South City Corporation former mayor in an alleged money embezzlement case.
PBI Inspector AZM Moniruzzaman submitted the final report to Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka today (May 17).
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury accepted the investigation report and dismissed the case against Khokon and the other six accused.
Delwar Hossain, president of Traders-Owners Association of Fulbaria City Supermarket-2 in the capital's Gulistan, filed the case on allegation of embezzling Tk 34.89 crore with the court on December 29, 2020.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam in January, 2021, accepted the statement of the plaintiff and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation to investigate the case and submit their report.
Yusuf Ali Sardar, the previous chief revenue officer of the city corporation, Md Mazed, its former deputy assistant engineer, and their assistants Kamrul Hasan, Helena Akter, Atiqur Rahman Swapan and Md Walid were also accused.
The case statement said that Khokon, along with the six other accused, plotted to construct and allocate shops in violation of the principal design of Fulbaria City Supermarket 2.
Although the primary design of Fulbaria Supermarket 2 accommodated 2,300 shops, an additional 911 shops were unlawfully established at various points in time, the case statement said.
PBI inspector AZM Moniruzzaman filed a report on April 8 requesting to relieve the seven from the charge as the investigation did not find allegation to be true.
