A hotel employee died from electrocution at 'Bismillah Hotel' in city's Shantibagh area on Friday (May 19) afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Ujjal Melkar, 22, son of Selim Melkar of Char Shimulia village of Gosairhat thana of Shariatpur district. 

Bachchu Miah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, confirmed the matter.

'Bismillah Hotel' manager Sultan Gazi said Ujjal was working in the washing area behind the hotel. 

As the manager returned to hotel after Jumma prayers, he found Ujjal lying unconscious on the floor, he added.

Ujjal was immediately taken to Khidmah Hospital and later to DMCH for better treatment, the hotel manager said.

DMCH OC said that the on duty-doctor declared him dead.

The victim came in contact with a live electric wire while washing vegetables outside, OC added. 

The body has been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy.

The matter was informed to the concerned police station, he added.
