Rail communication with Sylhet has been suspended after two compartments and the locomotive of Sylhet-bound Udayan Express derailed in Komolganj upazila of Moulvibazar this morning (May 20).

The derailment occurred around 4:45 am in the Lauachhara forest located in the upazila.

Confirming the matter, Srimangal Railway Station Master Sakhawat Hossain said the railway connection between Sylhet and the rest of the country was disrupted following the derailment.

According to him, the Udayan Express train, departing from Chattogram, derailed in the Lauachhra forest. Due to a storm during the night, a tree might fall onto the railway line. When the moving train hit the tree, two of its coaches and the engine derailed. 

Rescue trains from Kulaura and Akhaura are en route to the location following the accident, he said, adding the estimated time for resuming the rail communication remains unknown.
