DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also ruling Awami League president, categorically said opposition parties would not foil upcoming polls at any cost.

The premier came up with the assertion while addressing a programme marking the founding anniversary of Awami League’s youth outfit Juba League on Saturday at city’s Suhrawardy Udyan.

Indicating opposition party, she said, “Come to the street as a political party and perform with democratic manners instead of burning people and don’t use youths in violent activities otherwise people will take action.”

Sheikh Hasina said: “We were as flexible as needed to be, but the opposition leader did not respond to any of our efforts as BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia does not want the elections.”

The premier slammed the opposition chief for the deaths during the recent violence.

Sheikh Hasina said, “We were prepared to give away the home ministry if opposition wanted but please shut the sabotage activism.”

She also criticized the BNP for their role in rehabilitating war criminals, corruption and misrule, militancy, bombings and killings during their previous rule.

Juba League chairman Omar Faruque Chowdhury presided over function.
