Government employees affiliated with the Secretariat Coordinated Council staged a protest inside the Secretariat compound on Sunday (Sept 21), pressing for the swift implementation of a new pay scale and improvements to training and welfare benefits.
The demonstration began around 11:30 am at the Badamtola area of the Secretariat, where employees gathered before marching to the Ministry of Public Administration.
They later assembled in front of the office of the ministry’s senior secretary.
Key demands raised by the demonstrators include immediate execution of the proposed pay scale, extending the duration of the Sanjeevani training programme to 10 days, increasing the associated allowance to Tk 20,000, and providing ration support for six members of each employee’s family.
Speakers at the protest included Mohammad Badiul Kabir, president of the Secretariat Coordinated Council, and Mohammad Morshed, a personal officer from the Ministry of Finance.
Union leaders reiterated their call for the government to act promptly on these longstanding demands.
