DHAKA: Shahed Chowdhury, Chief Reporter of the daily Shamokal, and Elias Khan of daily Amar Desh, were reelected as president and general secretary respectively of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Saturday.

Shahed Chowdhury bagged 738 votes while his nearest rival Ajmal Haque Helal polled 237 votes.

Elias Khan got 543 votes, defeating his nearest Sheikh Mamunur Rashid of the daily Jugantor, who bagged 413 votes.

The other executive members are Vice-president Rafiqul Islam Azad (345), joint secretary Shariful Islam (471), organising secretary Morsalin Nomani (508), cultural affairs secretary Azizul Parvez (520), women affairs secretary Syeda Lutfa Sahana (504), publications and publicity secretary Kamruzzaman Kazal (401), training affairs secretary Sazzad Hossain (679) and sports secretary Badrul Alam Khokon.

Some 1,134 DRU members cast their votes in the election to elect their leaders for the next one year.

The voting started around 9:00am and continued till 5.
