BNP has expelled its leader Kamrul Ahsan Rupom for life for contesting the upcoming Barishal City Corporation election as an independent mayoral candidate.

The party issued a press release, signed by Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, in this regard on Saturday (June 3).

According to the press release, the party is taking organisational action against Rupom as he is participating in the Barishal city polls, scheduled for June 12, ignoring the party's decision.

On June 2, BNP issued a show-cause notice to Kamrul Ahsan Rupom. Later, Rupom replied to the notice which was not satisfactory.
