Border guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man along with 16 gold bars weighing 1.865 kg from Jibonnagar border area of Chuadanga on Thursday (June 8).
The arrestee was identified as Selim Hossain, 30, a resident of Baghadanga village of Maheshpur police station of Jhenaidah.
BGB arrested Selim from Jibonnagar patila para Eid ga math (ground) area at 6:30 am.
Maheshpur 58 BGB assistant director Mohammad Saiful Islam disclosed the matter through a press release.
According to press release, there was information that a consignment of gold is being smuggled to India through Jibonnagar border. Later, a special team of BGB took position accordingly. At that time, two motorcyclists sensing present of BGB tried to escape the scene.
However, BGB men arrested Selim and another managed to escape the scene, said the press release.
Market value of the recovered gold is around Tk 1.60 crore, read press release.
A case has been lodged in this regard with Jibon Nagara police station.
