Six 'fraud gang' members held in capital

The anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Dhaka metropolitan police (DMP) arrested six suspected members of a fraud gang in the capital on Monday (June 12).

The arrestees are identified as Turjaul Hosen Turjo, 22, Julhash Hosen alias Shajan, 30, Monir Hosen, 24, Md. Mahfuz Biswas, 27 and Md. Abdul Al Mukit Kauser, 21.

They were arrested during drives in Mohammodpur and Vatara area in the capital at 8:30 am.

Two laptops, 18 mobiles, and two hard disks were recovered during the drives. Besides, 36 Facebook pages of information were recovered. The arrestees used to crook people using these pages.   

Superintendent of Police (SP) of Media and Awareness Wing of ATU Mohammad Aslam Khan confirmed the matter.

He said the arrested people used to crook people with fake advertisements through Facebook pages. 

Fraud gang members used to open mobile phone sales pages on Facebook under different names and advertise the sale of expensive mobile phones at low prices. When buyers used to confirm product, these gang members used to ask them for booking money. Later, the members of the fraudulent gang used to extort more money on various pretexts including unlocking the phone, he said.

A case was filed against them in this regard, he added.
