Customs intelligence officials recovered 60 gold bars, weighing 6.96 kg, from a dustbin at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital on Monday (June 12) morning.
Md Shafiqul Islam, Protocol Officer of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) confirmed the matter.
He said an aircraft of US Bangla (BS-334) landed at the airport around 9.30am from Dubai. Later, based on secret information, customs officials searched different areas and later recovered the gold bars from a dustbin at the boarding bridge area of Gate bay-19 of the airport.
They also detained a cleaner of the airport for interrogation, but the identity of the cleaner is yet to be confirmed.
The market value of the seized gold is worth around Tk 5.4 crore, he added.
A legal process is underway in this connection, the custom official said.
