A police constable was stabbed to death in Farmgate area of the capital early Saturday (July 1).

The deceased Maniruzzaman Talukdar, 45, a constable of DC (Tejgaon) Traffic Division, hailed from Sherpur district.

HM Azimul Huq, deputy commissioner (Tejgaon) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Station, confirmed the matter.

He said Maniruzzaman returned to Dhaka from home and reached Farmgate around 3:30 am.

When he reached Sejan Point of Indira Road, a group of miscreants stabbed him indiscriminately around 4:15 am, leaving him injured.

Later, he was taken to Suhrawardy Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, Azimul Huq said.

Police are looking into the murder incident, he added.
