A college student was stabbed to death by robbers in Dhaka's Dhanmondi area on Sunday night.

The deceased Sayed Rakib, 18, was an HSC candidate in Ideal College. He was son of Nurunnabi, an office assistant at the Ministry of Public Administration.

Dhanmondi Police Station SI Md Alamgir confirming the matter said Rakib came under attack around after 10 pm near Dhanmondi Sheikh Jamal field.

He said when Rakib along with one of his friends went to a tea stall, some men tried to snatch their valuables and at one stage stabbed the youth.

His friend Raiyan was also injured in the attack. Then the muggers fled the scene, he said.

They were rushed to the nearby Anowar Khan Modern Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Rakib dead 12 midnight, he added.

His body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the SI added.
