Echoing with the US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said dialogue among political parties is needed as ongoing crises are not matters to be solved on the streets.
The CEC said this to reporters after an hour-long meeting with the US Ambassador at his election office on Tuesday (August 1).
He said: "We have clearly said the crises prevailing in the country are political in nature, and it has no connection with my work. If these problems are settled politically, organizing elections will be much more comfortable and easier for us."
The CEC also said dialogue is necessary among the political parties. I think it is essential for political parties to sit together at the same table, have tea together, and then discuss and resolve these crises."
The US also believes that dialogue is needed between politicians to solve the crises, the CEC added.
Earlier today, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas said his country will send a monitoring team in early October to assess the pre-polls situation ahead of Bangladesh's parliamentary elections.
