Police arrested five people for allegedly robbing 14 gold bars at Hajari Goli in Chattogram. 

They were arrested during a drive in Brahmanbaria and Chattogram on Tuesday (August 8) night.

The arrestees are - Jayanto Banik, Prabir Banik, Abdur Rauf, Md. Mainuddin Hasan Tushar and Sraboni Banik.

Kotwali Police Station Deputy Inspector (SI) Mominul Hasan confirmed the matter.

Six gold bars and Tk 6.30 lakh have been recovered from the arrestees, he said.

On August 6, gold trader Kanak Dhar was going home with 14 gold bars. At that time, when he reached near Hajari Goli the arrestees snatched the bars, SI said.

The investigating officer said later Kanak Dhar filed a case at Kotwali police station as the plaintiff. While investigating, the police identified the culprits through CCTV camera. 

However, the arrestees admitted that they robbed following orders of Jayanto Banik and Prabir Banik, the official said, adding action will be taken in this regard.
