Natore's Kachagolla now gets GI status

Natore's Kachagolla, a popular sweet item, has secured 17th Geographical Indication (GI) status of Bangladesh.

Natore Deputy Commissioner Abu Naser Bhuiyan disclosed the information through a letter signed by Khandaker Mostafizur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Patent, Design and Trademark under the Ministry of Industries.

Earlier on July 5, four items- Yogurt from Bogura, Tulsimala rice from Sherpur, Ashwina and Langra mangoes from Chapainawabganj were recognised as Geographical Indicator (GI) products status.

A GI is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin, according to the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
