The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit busted another militant den at Kulaura in Moulvibazar on Tuesday (August 15).
During a raid, the law enforcers recovered six kilograms of explosives and 14 bullets from the den.
Md Asaduzzaman, additional commissioner (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), provided the information while briefing journalists at Islachhara Punjir Maath in Karmadha.
The CTTC team along with two militants arrested earlier reached the den and found the explosives inside it, he said.
He said some of the members of new militant outfit ‘Imam Mahmuder Kafela’ stayed there.
The officer disclosed the names of the 17 militants, who are also members of the outfit, who were held on Monday.
They are Dr Sohel Tanzim, Jewel Mahmud, 28, Abir Hossain, 20, Ariful Islam, 34, Fahim Khan, 17, Solaiman, 19, Al Mamun Islam, 20, Rafiqul Islam, 38, Sadman Arefin Fahim, 21, Arteza Hasnat alias Labib, 19, Rahat Mandal, 24, Mehedi Hasan, 23, Jewel Sheikh, 24, Ashidul Islam, 29, Mamun Islam, 19, Tanzil Rana, 24 and Koyel, 24.
Of the arrestees, the wife of Dr Sohel was arrested on Saturday while Rahat and Mehedi passed in Mechanical Engineering from Yajun University in China.
On Monday morning, local people caught 17 radicals at Asakrabad and handed them over to police.
Asaduzzaman said police seized 95 detonators and Tk 2 lakh from their possession.
Earlier on Friday and Saturday, CTTC members discovered another hideout at East Tatriuli in Karmadha and arrested 10 members of the outfit.
The senior police officer said that they so far arrested 40 members of the outfit.
