Light to moderate rain likely: Met Office

Bangladesh Meteorology Department (BMD) predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers in different parts of the country in the next 24 hours commencing 9am today (August 18).

According to the Met office bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country. 

A low pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay and adjoining area. The axis of monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, center of the low and thence northeastwards to Assam across southern part of Bangladesh. Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh a moderate elsewhere over the North Bay.

Mild heat wave is sweeping over Rangpur and Sylhet divisions and the districts of Pabna and Bogura and it may continue.

Day temperature may rise slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the weather forecast begins from 9 am today.

Country's maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded 36.8 degree Celsius at Sylhet district and today's minimum temperature 24.4 degree Celsius was recorded at Bandarban district.

Country's maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6am today was recorded 42 millimeters (MM) at Badalgachi in Naogaon district.

The sun sets at 06.30 pm today and rises at 05.35 am tomorrow in the capital.
