Masuda Bhatti, Shahidul Alam Jhinuk made info commissioners

Journalist Masuda Bhatti and retired judge Shahidul Alam Jhinuk have been appointed as new information commissioners.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a notification to this end on Thursday (August 24).

The President made the appointment under Section 15(1) of the Right to Information Act, 2009.

The order issued in the public interest will come into effect immediately.

According to the notification, journalist Masuda Bhatti replaced former Information Commissioner Suraiya Begum.

Former Information Commissioner Dr. Abdul Malek was appointed as Chief Information Commissioner on March 21, 2023, Shahidul Alam Jhinuk has been appointed to the vacant post of Information Commissioner.

According to the rules, the tenure of appointment to the post of Information Commissioner is five years or on completion of the age of 67 years whichever is earlier.

New Information Commissioner Shahidul Alam Jhinuk joined the judiciary in 1991 as the tenth BCS officer and went on post-retirement leave in January this year from the post of Inspector General, Registration as Senior District and Sessions Judge.

And Masuda Bhatti, a political analyst and writer who has worked as a journalist for the BBC and Moscow Times, was serving as the executive editor of the daily Our Economics magazine.
