A Chattogram court on Monday (August 28) sentenced five people to life imprisonment for raping and killing a ninth-grade student of Rahmatpur High School in Sandwip in 2015. 

Judge Zainal Abedin of Chattogram Women and Children Torture Prevention Tribunal-3 passed the order.

The convicts are - Md. Akbar Hossain Prakash alias hatkata Akbar, 28, Md. Mosharraf Hossain Prakash Liton, 25, Md. Nurul Abshar Prakash Swapan, 32, Abul Bashar Prakash Bashar, 47, and Md. Suman, 30.

Tribunal's Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Jiko Barua confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

The court sentenced five people to life imprisonment and three months' imprisonment if not paid a fine of Tk 20,000, he said.

According to the case statement, on September 13, 2015, the ninth standard girl was found dead. Later, the victim’s mother Parvin AKter registered a case with the local police station.
