Nourishing Futures: Importance of Optimal Nutrition in the First Six Months of Life

As part of World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) celebrations throughout the month of August, the National Nutrition Services (NNS) organized a roundtable discussion jointly with the Daily Kaler Kantho titled “Nourishing Futures: Importance of Optimal Nutrition in the first 6 months of life”. USAID’s Community Nutrition and Health Activity (CNHA) implemented by a CARE Bangladesh-led consortium, supported the organization of the event.

Dr. Mijanur Rahman, Line Director, National Nutrition Services (NNS), presided over the discussion and Dr. Mohammad Mofijul Islam Bulbul, Program Manager, NNS, delivered the keynote presentation. Mohammad Ali Reja, Deputy Chief of Party of USAID’s Community Nutrition and Health Activity, provided an overview of the project and how its goals align with the Government of Bangladesh’s priorities in the nutrition sector.

Prof. Dr. ABM Abdullah; Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Additional Secretary (Public Health); and Prof. Dr. Shah Golam Nabi, Director, Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN), participated in the panel discussion. Other prominent participants included the Country Directors of icddr,b, Jhpiego, Nutrition International; and technical representatives from CARE Bangladesh and the National Nutrition Services.

The program was moderated by Shahed Mohammad Ali, Editor of the Daily Kaler Kantho, and co-moderated by Mohammad Hafijul Islam, Technical Lead-Nutrition, CNHA, and SUN CSA Executive Member.

A supplement to the roundtable discussion is expected to be published in the daily Kaler Kantho soon.
