3 car garages gutted at Uttara

Dhaka: An accidental inferno burnt three motor garages at Koshaibari market in city’s Airport area Thursday, leaving one person wounded.

Uttara thana sources said the injured, Jashim, a motor mechanic of the locality, was rescued by neighbours in critical condition. He was admitted into Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

On information, five fire-fighting units from Tongi and Kurmitola rushed in to the spot and brought the flames under control within one hour, local people said.

The fire occurred at around 9.30 am in a garage named Khaza Automobiles and swiftly engulfed Lipi Automobiles and Munshi Automobiles of the neighboring Koshaibari market.

Respective fire-fighting officials said the fire might have originated from accidental burst of CNG cylinder of a vehicle, which was under service at Khaza’s.

The garage owners claimed that the damage costs them Tk 30 lakh.

The firefighters said they saved valuables of the garages worth about Tk 30 lakh.
