Police fired tear gas shells and used water cannons in Ashulia on Tuesday (October 31) morning to disperse garment workers after they blocked roads demanding an increase in wages.
Workers of several factories blocked the Tongi-Ashulia-EPZ road around 8:30 am.
Members of the police and BGB were seen patrolling the area to control the situation.
RMG workers across the country have been demonstrating demanding a minimum salary of Tk 23,000, but workers of Ashulia joined the demonstration in the last three days.
Seeking anonymity an officer of the Ashulia police station said Banglanews that from today’s morning, the workers are trying to blockade and vandalize various places.
“We are trying to remove them from here and no vehicles are running on the road”, he added.
