Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation have arrested an airline passenger with 49 gold bars worth 4.41 crore in Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
Mizanur Rahman, deputy director of Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation in HSIA confirmed the matter today (December 7).
He said there was information that a passenger carrying illegal gold. Later, members of Customs Intelligence and Investigation took position accordingly and arrested Fazle Rabbi after he landed at the airport.
Later, based on the information provided by Rabbi, 49 gold bars were recovered from bellow the seat of the airline he was traveling.
The weight of the gold is around 5.684 kg and the process of depositing the bars in the customs warehouse of Dhaka Custom House is underway, the official added.
He also said that preparations are underway to file a criminal case against Fazle Rabbi, under the Customs Act, at the airport police station.
