SIRAJGANJ: An Awami League leader was chopped to death by miscreants in Baitara Bazar area under Sadar upazila of the district on Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Saiful Islam, 45, upazila AL Juba and Sports Affairs Secretary and resident of the area.

Local sources said that a gang of miscreants made a phone call to Saiful and asked him to go out. The miscreants attacked him and chopped him dead on the spot at 5:00pm.

After the incident, Awami League activists torched five houses of BNP-Jamaat men in this connection in the area protesting the killing.

District AL General Secretary AKM Hossain Ali Hasan alleged that “BNP-Jamaat men have killed Saiful”.

Police Super of the district SM Emran Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
