Ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed on Thursday (January 4) morning after about 11 hours of suspension due to dense fog.
Ferry movement resumed around 8:30 am as fog intensity started to decline.
Mohiuddin Russel, Paturia ferry ghat unit Assistant general manager (Commerce Department) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) confirmed the matter.
He said that dense fog blanketed the river routes, forcing us to suspend the ferry movements at around 9:30 pm on Wednesday.
All the ferries were asked to remain at the ghats to avoid any untoward situation, he said, adding passengers were seen waiting on both sides of the river amid the cold.
Three ferries—Shah Paran, Banalata and Keramat Ali—were anchored in the middle of the river due to the suspension of services, causing sufferings to passengers amid cold.
As the ferry services resumed, vehicles carrying passengers were allowed to cross the river first.
