Bangladesh border under BGB’s control, DG on Myanmar issue

Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, director general (DG) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Tuesday (February 6) said the overall situation that emerged between Myanmar army and rebel group along the border area is under BGB control.

He said whatever the situation appears in Myanmar, Bangladesh will not allow the entrance of Rohingyas anymore.

The BGB DG said this after placing wreaths at the grave of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara of Gopalganj this noon.

“The overall situation along the border is under our control. And from now on, we will no longer permit the entry of Rohingya people in Bangladesh,” he said.

Around 65 Rohingyas have attempted to enter Bangladesh but they were promptly turned away, he said.

“We have given shelter and food to them. Among them, 15 were injured. Eight of them were undergoing treatment at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital and Chattogram Medical College and Hospital,” said the BGB DG.

Two people, including a Bangladeshi woman were killed following an explosion of a mortar shell on Monday, he said, adding, “Such deaths can’t be acceptable.”

“I have been working on this issue of Myanmar since taking charge yesterday afternoon. I am going to visit the site tomorrow morning (February 7).” He added.
