CHITTAGONG: A Chhatra Shibir activist was killed and four others were injured critically in a bloody clash between Chhatra League and Shibir on Monday evening.

The deceased was identified as Mamun Hossain, general secretary of Shah Amanat Hall Chhatra Shibir unit, also a 4th year student of Marine Science Department of the university.

Police and campus sources said a fierce clash took place between Chhatra League and Shibir around 5:00pm at Shah Amanat Hall, leaving several Shibir and Chhatra League activists injured.

Of them, five were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where Mamun succumbed to his injuries in the evening.

Hospital sources said the death toll may rise as condition of the injured is critical.

CMCH police outpost in-charge Jahirul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Earlier in the day, Chhatra League activists brought out a procession on the campus protesting recent attack on CU Chhatra League office secretary Jalal Ahmed in Sylhet by Shibir activists.

At one stage, BCL men tried to enter Shah Amanat Hall which created tension between the two students body.

Later, they locked into a clash that left the student dead.
