Dhaka, the overcrowded capital city of Bangladesh, has been ranked the fourth most polluted city globally, with an AQI of 216 at 8:45am today (Dec 24).

The city's air quality was classified as "unhealthy" according to the latest air quality ranking.

Delhi, India, topped the list with an AQI score of 331, followed by Baghdad, Iraq, at 273, and Accra, Ghana, at 236.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) scale categorizes scores between 151 and 200 as "unhealthy," 201-300 as "very unhealthy," and 301-400 as "hazardous," which can pose severe health risks to residents.

The AQI in Bangladesh is based on five pollutants: particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone.

Dhaka has long been grappling with air pollution issues. Its air quality usually turns unhealthy in winter and improves during the monsoon.
