Security beefed up in Ctg court

CHITTAGONG: Security measures have been beefed up at the Chittagong court premises on Thursday centering the pronouncement of verdict of much-talked about sensational 10-truck arms haul cases.

Police check posts were set up at every entry points of the court and suspicious person is being searched in those points.

Armed police were deployed at the rooftop of all high-rise building, footoverbridge located at court hill from early hours of the day.

Besides, apprehending subversive acts, additional police were deployed at different key points of the port city.

Police sources said that following the 10-truck arms haul case verdict, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) was given special directions. Prime Minister’s office, home minister and police head quarter were monitoring the security measures.

Additional Police Commissioner (crime and operations) Banj Kumar Mazumdar told banglanews, “Ten truck cases is very important that’s why special security measures have been taken apprehending subversive act.”

Additional Deputy Commissioner (prosecution) Mohammad Rezaul Masud said that additional ten platoon police men were deployed in the court premises at around 5:00am.

On April 2, 2004, the police seized 4,930 types of sophisticated firearms, 27,020 grenades, 840 rocket launchers, 300 rockets, 2,000 grenade launching tubes, 6,392 magazines and 11,40,520 bullets when they were being loaded on to 10 trucks from two engine-boats at the jetty of the Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL).

Former BNP state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar, former industries minister and Jamaat leader Motiur Rahman Nizami and a few high-ranking intelligence agency and government officials were accused in the cases.
