All in govt not angels: Arafat

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat today (May 4) said all those, who run the government are not angels.

He made the remark while addressing a discussion titled "A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the face of the Environmental Crisis" at the National Press Club in the capital.

Editors' Council (Sampadak Parishad) organised the programme to mark the World Press Freedom Day.

Arafat said, “We always welcome and appreciate constructive criticism. Because we don't think that those who are running the government are all angels.”

“Everyone is human. We can make mistakes, we can have deviations, we can have failures. The media is there to convey them, it is the responsibility of the media. If presented constructively, we have no problem admitting it and purging them,” he further said in his speech.

Declaring that the local journalism is a bit difficult, he further said journalists in Dhaka gets protection which locals don’t get. We will take steps to make local journalism easier.

There is a lot of evil practice in district level journalism. Where there is a lack of professionalism. This practice of journalism damages professional journalists.

“I am taking some steps to bring discipline on local journalism on demand of several district level journalist organizations including registration of media,” he added.
