Electricity situation will soon improve: Nasrul

The government on Monday (May 6) said the country’s electricity situation will soon improve from the current crisis.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid made the remark while talking to reporters about the country’s power crisis at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital.

He said, “We have experienced severe heatwave during the last couple of weeks, which was not expected.

And this unavoidable situation, created by high temperature, forced a little load shedding, he told journalists.

The state minister also said that necessary measures have already been taken following the prime minister’s instructions to work for overcoming the load shedding situation in the rural areas.

“Financial and energy crisis have been solved. No more problems. Electricity situation will be improved day by day. There is no load shedding anywhere today,” he added.

Nasrul Hamid said, “It was not known what the maximum temperature would be [in April]. Therefore, there has been some load shedding across the country. The situation is now under control.”

He, however, said that Bangladesh recorded the highest power generation recently, but that the demand has also shot up.

Some 16,477 megawatts of electricity were produced recently. But the power demand is also going up forcing the shutdown of a few power plants [during the intense heatwave], he said.

“We will increase the production by coordinating fuel supply with international sources.

The year’s temperature is high, the production is high, and the demand is also high, Nasrul said.
