Heavy downpour causes commuter suffering in Dhaka

A sudden heavy downpour caused waterlogging in various parts of Dhaka, intensifying suffering for city dwellers, particularly commuters.

The rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, began around 9 am and continued until noon.

Many people were seen wading through ankle-deep water in areas such as Mouchak, Malibagh, Badda, Moghbazar, and Mirpur to reach their destinations.

Students and their parents suffered greatly on the first day of school and college reopening after the Eid holiday due to the rain.

Office-goers also faced difficulties reaching their destinations due to a lack of transport in the morning.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department today (June 26) predicted light to moderate and moderately heavy to heavy rainfall or thundershowers with temporary gusty wind and moderately heavy to heavy falls at different places over the country in the next 24 hours commencing 9 am today.

According to the Met office bulletin, light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barisal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Rajshahi and Khulna divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country.

Day and night temperature may fall by 1-3 degrees Celsius over the country

However, mild heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and it may abate from some places, it added.

Country's maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded 38.0 degrees Celsius jointly at Rajshahi and Pabna (Ishwardi). While, today's minimum temperature 24.4 degrees Celsius was recorded at Bandarban.

Rainfall for the last 24 hours commencing 6 am today was recorded 85 mm in Panchgarh.

The sun sets at 6:50 pm today and rises at 5:13 am tomorrow in the capital.
