3 killed as fire breaks out in Chattogram's Reazuddin Bazar fire

At least three people were killed and two others injured in a fire that broke out at Reazuddin Bazar, one of the largest wholesale markets in Chattogram city, early Friday.

Two of the deceased were identified as Md Ridwan, 45, and Md Shahed, 18, hailed from Satkania upazila in the district.

Sources said the fire broke out from an electric short-circuit on the first floor of Mohammadia Market around 1.40am. 

It spread fast engulfing the market and an adjoining commercial-cum-residential building. 

Five persons of a residence of the building got trapped and fell sick inhaling black smoke at that time.

They were rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared three of the victims dead. Rest two women were undergoing treatment at the hospital, said Sub Inspector Nurul Alam Ashek, in-charge of the hospital police outpost.

Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) Chattogram Assistant Director Abdul Malek said being tipped off, eight fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire around 5.30am.
