DHAKA: Writer-film maker-Architect Shakoor Majid was accorded a grand reception at his alma mater Faujdarhat Cadet College on the evening or 23rd January 2013.
The principal of Lt. Col Md. Rezaul Hassan psc who is also the first ex-cadet (faujian) of FCC had stated this initiative to introduce with Faujian Icons to have an interactive session with the present cadets.
The principal says, “Taking over the responsibility as the first Faujian Principal of our beloved alma mater, I have taken an initiative to invite our “Faujian Icons” who have illuminated our great alma mater earning laurels, name and fame in their life time.”
He also said: “The purpose for this invitation is designed for bolstering our existing relationship and inspiring our young Faujians with their achievement. Within last four months time span, three of our Faujian Icons Mr. Fazle Elahi, finance secretary Major General Abdus Salam and Major General Hamidur Rahman Choudhury, Commandant, School of infantry and tactics, Sylhet cantonment have glorified our institution.”
In a note to the Shakoor Majid, a 25th batch cadet of the institution, the principal mentioned that, “We feel really honored that you have been the national celebrate in the field of literature, architecture, making films and drama etc. Being a versatile genius, you have taken our beloved alma mater to a great height which is matter of great pride for us. We hope that this visit will give you an opportunity to interact with our cadets and faculty members.”
The session started at 7:00PM at the college auditorium. Shakoor Majid was introduced to cadets by the college prefect.
Then the college cultural prefect conducted the program. It started with an introductory video made on Shakoor Majid. Later Shakoor was invited to the stage to speak with the cadets for next one hour.
Shakoor narrated his story and the influence of his cadet life where he spent 6 years of his life from 1978 to 1984.
He emphasized on the daily curriculum and co-curricular activities of the cadets and the environment prevailed in his period, where photography club, music club, publication of literary journals, literary and cultural competitions, guidance of teachers, specially the teachers who taught about bangla and English literature injected the spirit in him to write.
Shakoor also spoke about the struggle he had to overcome to adjust his rural life before coming at the cadet college and advised the cadets to utilize all the prevailing opportunities they are availing.
The second session was a ceremonial dinner at cadet mess, where all the teaching staffs with their spouses were attended with cadet. Shakoor Majid and his wife Dr. Hosne Ara Jolly was there as the chief and special guest.
Third session started after the dinner. There were screening of two of his documentaries made on Shakespeare’s birth place and Tagore’s Santiniketon.
After the screening the principal Col Reza handed over the crest, souvenir and gift to the chief guest Shakoor Majid and his wife Dr. Tauhida Murad handed over floral bouquet, gifts to the Dr. Hosne Ara, wife of Shakoor Majid.
