Bangladesh Embassy in UAE has appointed a lawyer to free 57 Bangladeshis sentenced to different terms for holding demonstrations in the Gulf state against their country’s government in solidarity with the quota reform movement.
A document signed by the Bangladesh mission deputy chief Mohammad Mizanur Rahman informed the matter on Monday (August 12).
On information, Dubai-based Bangladeshi lawyer Olora Afrin will provide legal support to 57 Bangladeshi expatriates for free.
According to media reports, expatriate Bangladeshis protested in the United Arab Emirates on July 19 in solidarity with the movement in Bangladesh.
Later, Abu Dhabi's Federal Court of Appeal sentenced 57 Bangladeshis to various terms of imprisonment. Three of them were sentenced to life imprisonment, 53 to 10 years and the remaining one to 11 years.
