Editors representing top national newspapers met Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday and discussed current issues.
The meeting was held at the state guest house Jamuna in the afternoon.
Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman, The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, The New Age Editor Nurul Kabir, Daily Jugantor Editor Saiful Alam, The Business Standard Editor Enam Ahmed, and Kalbela Editor Santosh Sharma, among others, were present at the meeting.
Addressing the editors, Yunus expressed his firm belief in the power of free press, urging the media to be vocal and transparent in their coverage, especially when it comes to critiquing the government.
Yunus made a special appeal to the editors, stressing the importance of establishing a national consensus through their writings. He encouraged them to accept diverse suggestions and to be unflinching in pointing out mistakes in all aspects of government operations.
According to him, the media has a vital role in helping the government correct any missteps and ensuring that governance aligns with the people's will.
