BD Embassy in Tokyo commemorates Prof Nara

DHAKA: Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo organized a condolence program on February 2 in commemorating Tsuyoshi Nara, former Professor of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS).

Around 30 eminent Japanese nationals including six Friends of Bangladesh, who were conferred honor by the Bangladesh government for their contribution during the Liberation War, attended the meeting.

They include former Japanese ambassadors to Bangladesh Horiguchi and Inoue, Japanese foreign ministry representatives, educationists, intellectuals and students of Professor Nara, among others, were present at the condolence meeting.

The meeting began with an observance of one-minute silence in honor of Professor Nara. It was followed by reading out of a condolence message from Japan’s foreign ministry.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh M Shahriar Alam sent a condolence message which was also read out at the event by the Bangladesh ambassador.

At the discussion, the speakers recalled the contribution of Professor Nara during Bangladesh’s war of independence in creating awareness and mobilizing public support for Bangladesh in Japan.
