Rizwana calls for civil society's collaboration to build equitable state

Environment, Forest, Climate Change, and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan said that the effort to create a fair and just society is not solely the responsibility of an interim government but a collective mission for everyone.

Calling for civil society’s support in this endeavor, she highlighted that reforming the state requires self-reflection and reform within society itself.

"Any gaps in government initiatives must be identified. The government, along with various commissions, is engaging in discussions to build a more equitable state. There is a commitment to ensuring the free flow of information, and when protests arise, protest representatives are involved in dialogue. Trust in the government needs to be maintained, as things are being handled differently from traditional approaches," she also said.

The Environment Adviser made these comments while virtually attending a national consultation titled "Civil Society: Past, Present, and Future," organized by the CSO Alliance at Lakeshore Hotel in the capital today (19 October).

She further acknowledged the significant contributions of civil society and NGOs in shaping the state.

Underscoring the importance of strengthening ties between the government and civil society, she said that discussions about the GNCC have taken place, and progress has been made.

"This issue will be raised in the next cabinet meeting, addressing various priorities. NGOs, too, need to engage in self-reflection, and transparency in the NGO Bureau must be ensured. We must preserve our distinct identity and work collectively with a shared vision. Civil society and NGOs must prioritize their efforts," the adviser added.

The event saw the participation of numerous government and civil society officials.
