The Ministry of Railways has canceled the lease agreements for 24 privately-operated trains due to alleged violations of contract terms.
The list of the canceled trains, however, has not yet been disclosed, and Bangladesh Railway has not provided specific reasons for the termination.
Railway Director (Public Relations) Md. Nahid Hasan Khan confirmed the matter to the media on Tuesday (Nov 12).
He said the lease agreements were canceled effective immediately. When asked about the details of the decision, he declined to comment further.
Sources indicate that the canceled trains were operated by various companies owned by former Chhatra League leader Salauddin Ripon and his family members. The trains were initially leased out for a period of four years under private operation.
