Tarique meets Commonwealth Deputy Secy gen

LONDON: BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman met Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba, the Deputy Secretary-General of Commonwealth, at its headquarter in London.

Local BNP sources said that in the meeting Tarique talked with the Commonwealth Deputy Secretary General regarding ongoing political and human rights situation in Bangladesh.

Masire-Mwamba stressed on holding a fruitful dialogue and an election with the participation of all political parties.

BNP sources also said that the meeting also was discussed about the statement of Commonwealth Secretary General after January 5 elections.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Secretary General also assured Bangladesh for all types of cooperation to hold a free and fair election for protecting the democracy of the country as it is a member of Commonwealth.

Tarique Rahman said that there is no alternative of free, fair and credible election to solve ongoing political stalemates.

Tarique Rahman’s special advisor Humayun Kabir, Barrister MA Salam and Barrister Abu Saleh was present in the meeting.
