The government has introduced four pairs of new commuter trains on the Dhaka-Joydebpur-Dhaka route to improve travel between Dhaka and Gazipur.
The service was inaugurated by Transport Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan at Joydebpur Railway Junction around 7 am today (Dec 15).
The new commuter trains, named Turag Commuter-1, Turag Commuter-2, Turag Commuter-3, Turag Commuter-4, Joydebpur Commuter-1, Joydebpur Commuter-2, Joydebpur Commuter-3, and Joydebpur Commuter-4, will serve commuters traveling between Dhaka and Gazipur. These trains will stop at key stations, including Dhaka Airport, Tejgaon, Banani, Tongi, and Dhirashram, making it easier for daily passengers to travel to and from the capital.
During the inauguration, Adviser Khan paid tribute to the martyrs of the anti-discrimination movement and emphasized the government's ongoing commitment to improving the country's transport infrastructure.
He also mentioned plans for future commuter train services between Dhaka and Narsingdi, as well as Dhaka and Narayanganj.
The new service is expected to ease the daily commute for thousands of passengers, including students and workers. One of the most attractive features of the service is its affordable fare—just Tk 20 for a trip from Gazipur to Kamalapur.
