Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus reached Cairo, the capital of Egypt today (Dec 18) at 11:00 am local time to attend the D-8 Summit.
He was warmly received at Cairo International Airport by Mohamed Shimi, the Minister of the Public Business Sector of the Arab Republic of Egypt, as confirmed by the Chief Adviser's press wing.
After his arrival, Prof Yunus engaged in a brief meeting with Minister Shimi to discuss matters related to the upcoming summit.
Prof Yunus had left Dhaka on the evening of December 17 for a two-day state visit to Cairo. He departed on an Emirates Airlines flight at 1:20 am from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, accompanied by his entourage, as reported by Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
The D-8 Summit, scheduled for December 19, will focus on the theme "Investing in Youth and Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow's Economy." This summit brings together member countries of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, which was founded in 1997.
The organization fosters development cooperation among its member states, including Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. Collectively, these nations represent approximately 14 percent of the global population.
