Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali announced plans to crack down on extortion and ensure discipline in the city.

The DMP boss was speaking at a view-exchange meeting at the Diploma Engineers Institution in Kakrail on Saturday (December 21).
He said: “No one will extort, and no one will be spared if they engage in extortion.”
Commissioner Sajjat Ali urged citizens to remain vigilant when navigating streets and ghats.
He said that evicting hawkers abruptly would be inhumane but warned that bribery involving hawkers would not be tolerated.
Issuing a stern warning against motorcyclists using sidewalks and excessive horn honking in traffic jams, he said: “Action will be taken soon against those who honk their horns repeatedly.”
The meeting was also attended, among others, by police, students, citizens, and representatives from the Ramna Model Police Station area.
