The government has renamed the country’s largest rail bridge over the Jamuna River as the ‘Jamuna Rail Bridge.’

Previously, the bridge was named the "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Rail Bridge."

Bangladesh Railway Director General Md. Afzal Hossain confirmed the decision on Sunday (Dec 22).

The bridge, which connects Sirajganj and Tangail, is expected to be inaugurated in January 2025. However, project officials are also considering earlier openings in December or early January, he added.
