Ex-MP Poton remanded for 3 days over Juba Dal leader murder

A Dhaka court placed former Narsingdi-2 lawmaker Kamrul Ashraf Khan (Poton) on a three-day remand in connection with the murder of Juba Dal leader Shamim.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter issued the remand order after the police requested a 10-day remand for Poton, who was arrested from the Keraniganj area on December 19.

According to the case details, on October 28, 2023, BNP organized a rally in the Naya Paltan area, which led to a counter-rally by the Awami League (AL) with support from law enforcement. The Awami League supporters, along with the police, attacked the BNP rally, resulting in Shamim Mollah’s death and injuries to several other BNP leaders and activists.

The case, filed at the Paltan Police Station in Dhaka on September 24, 2024, includes 704 people, including AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
