Widely-circulated Bangla newspaper Kaler Kantho, a sister concern of East West Media Group Ltd, stepped into 16th year on Friday (Jan 10).
Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan inaugurated the anniversary programme of the newspaper by cutting a cake at the Conference Hall of East West Media Bhabon on Thursday evening.
Ahmed Akbar Sobhan also announced financial assistance of Tk 1 crore to the families of five journalists who lost their lives during the anti-discrimination uprising in July-August last year while performing their professional duties.
He at this time expressed his gratitude to journalists for their relentless efforts and sacrifices, saying, “The profit from this fund will help sustain the families and educate their children. I stand by the journalists, and their welfare is a priority for me.”
The event was attended by veteran journalist Shafik Rehman, novelist and Bashundhara Group adviser Imdadul Haq Milan, Kaler Kantho editor Hasan Hafiz, Bangladesh Pratidin acting Editor Abu Taher, and Banglanews24.com editor Lutfor Rahman Himel, among others.
At around 4:30 pm today, Banglanews24.com Editor Lutfor Rahman Himel visited the Kaler Kantho office and extended his greetings. He presented a bouquet of flowers to Kaler Kantho Editor Hasan Hafiz and Executive Editor Haider Ali and congratulated them on their founding anniversary.
The editor was accompanied by Banglanews Head of News Ahmed Jewel, Senior Output Editor SM Salauddin, News Editor Hussain Azad, News Coordinator Sharmina Islam, Country Editor Shimul Sultana, Chief of Correspondents Ismail Hossain, Deputy Chief of Correspondents SMA Kalam, and Head of Multimedia Mousumi Sultana Mou.
The Kaler Kantho started journey on January 10, 2010 as a broadsheet under umbrella of the East West Media Group owned by the Bashundhara Group.
