The fire at the import cargo complex of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is still not fully under control, hours after it broke out on Saturday (October 18) at around 2:15 pm.
Despite joint efforts by 36 firefighting units and other specialized teams, the blaze continued into the evening. Muhammad Kawsar Mahmud, Assistant Director (Public Relations) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, said in a press release at 5:00 pm that the fire had been partially brought under control thanks to the combined efforts of all involved.
He said that more details would be provided later.
Firefighting operations included personnel from the Bangladesh Air Force stationed in Dhaka, as well as specially trained teams from BASHAR and other units, working to extinguish the blaze at the cargo village.
Officials have not yet confirmed if there were any casualties or the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
