Ansar members joined efforts with firefighters to control the massive blaze that broke out at the import cargo section of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday (October 18).
At least 25 Ansar members were injured while taking part in the firefighting operation. They were rushed to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and Kurmitola General Hospital for treatment.
The fire started around 2:15 pm near Gate No. 8 of the airport’s import cargo area, where various chemical, garment, electronic, and machinery products were stored.
Following the incident, 37 units of the Fire Service reached the spot and began battling the flames. Teams from the Bangladesh Army, Air Force, and Ansar also joined the coordinated operation.
According to the Ansar force, nearly 1,000 members deployed for airport security have been actively assisting in rescue and fire control efforts.
Md Golam Maula Tuhin, Commander of Ansar’s North Zone, said that Ansar personnel were among the first to notice the fire and immediately alerted the authorities. Despite the risks, they courageously tried to control the flames in the initial stages.
The Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) is supervising the overall response and ensuring proper medical care and support for the injured members.
